Do's and Don'ts for Teaching interview

A job of a teacher is equipped with fun and learning at the same time. Getting an interview call for a teaching job connects with so many emotions. It makes the candidate happy and nervous at the same time. It completely depends upon you how you make this opportunity into a milestone for your career. Doing preparation for a teaching job is more like appearing for an entrance exam. It is recommended that be prepared for the subject you are going to teach. It might be a difficult experience for anyone, here sharing some tips helping you to nail a teaching job interview.  

While nervousness is just a part of the process, there are so many ways to be more prepared for the interview. One of the very important steps towards preparing for the interview is building confidence. Know your qualities, which include everything about you, as what you want to share, your content area, and more about the school in which you will be going for an interview. It has been noticed that the most effective interviews are those in which candidates ask more questions than the interviewer. This will give a positive impression in the mind of the interviewer that you are genuinely interested in this job.  

Another related important tip is very simple i.e. practice. Try to interview with your friends or anyone. Talk and prepare yourself in expressing your greatest talents and your achievement. Practice speaking clearly with developed vocabulary. Do more practice and rehearsal.  

Next is the interview itself, here are some quick tips:    

1. Dress Appropriately: Always remember that you should look professional. Wear decent clothing or a professional outfit that shows your ability to be a senior in the classroom. And if you are applying for a secondary position, you must be able to present yourself differently from the students. Ensure you are not pitifully dressed it should be simple and professional.  

2. Always be sincere: Be sincere to tell the interviewer what you know and you still have to learn. Share your experience and if you are first applying for a job be sincere about your faults. Meanwhile, show your dedication and skills.  

3. Show your knowledge: Be more expressive and share your knowledge on which you have a firm grasp of the basics. Introduce your favorite subjects, topics and show your passion for your focused area. Carry a professional teaching portfolio in hand to reference. 

4. Be Energetic: Always show dedication towards the job. Be enthusiastic and energetic. As the job of a teacher is not only to educate but help the students in every possible way.   

5. Good impression: The first impression is the last and best impression. Keep a positive attitude as you can do it. Be on time, be polite and confident.  

6. Be illustrative: Be elaborative, explain your answers with examples. Always be a good listener and then answer. Put your best foot forward, and you can get through the interview easily.    

7. Salary: Never discuss money at the very first instance. As they will offer you the amount, you are expecting and what is being given to other teachers of your grade.  

8. Be Prepared:  Always be prepared for the subject you have applied for. As a teacher, you must know about the subject, lack of knowledge can ruin your chance of getting the job. Be prepared and study well about the course and content.  

9. Always be thankful: Appreciate the opportunity schools management has given on your behalf. Always be thankful and ready to welcome their thoughts and feedback. Also, show your interest and excitement about the opportunity to work in their school.  

10. Follow up: Sometimes the interview process may be longer and committees find themselves locked between 2-3 candidates. It is good to take a follow-up by doing an email, or you can send a thank-you card, to show them you are waiting for the feedback and you are the deserving candidate they want as part of the teaching staff.
